We from M&SE had the pleasure to attend the first hybrid Tourism and Technology Forum organized by Tourism Promotion Board (TPB) held in Okada Manila last 17-18 March 2021.

TPB took the initiative to organize two-day hybrid event for the Tourism Stakeholders and learn on the recent technology and platforms innovations for the industry.

Tourism is a major economic pillar for the country and Technology has played a fundamental role during this pandemic, most of the stakeholders have adapted, prepared and/or changed its business model to be able operate and provide services during this situation.

A learning platform with dynamic sessions and panels for everyone participating at the forum. Sharing knowledge, updates and experiences from the Speakers on Sustainability trends, SMART Tourism and Cities, Technology and Innovation.

It is important to highlight that the health and wellbeing was the higher priority during the event and rigorous protocols were implemented by the organizer and staff at the venue. All onsite delegates were required to present a COVID-19 Negative Test Result upon arrival, temperature screenings, social distancing arrangements were in place, participants wear both face shields and face mask at all times, etc.

Events like this demonstrate that the Meeting and Events Industry is working towards coming back to business following the health and safety protocols.

Last February, three of the most important global organizers collaborate together and present a successful and safe fashion shows to do business face-to-face for three days under one roof.

MAGIC Pop-Up Orlando managed by Tarsus Group, OFFPRICE Orlando Market managed by Informa Markets, and WWIN Orlando Showcase managed by Clarion Events on February 9-11 held at Orange County Convention Center (OCCC) in Orlando, Florida.

Shangri-La Group announced this week by an Official Statement that Makati Shangri-La is closing temporarily due to the pandemic, the last day of operations is February 1^st., 2021.

As many other companies in our industry, Makati Shangri-La has mitigated the financial impact with salary reduction at the management level, shorter work weeks, supporting their employees but after all the efforts the hotel make the decision to close temporary until the business conditions improve.

The luxurious hotel located in the central business area started operations on April 27, 1993. “The Shangri-La Makati was known as one of the first International five-star properties at a time where few large chains were present in the Philippines capital.”
